Manual install of the Sysgem WMI-provider

The Sysgem WMI Provider is a piece of software that is installed on a target machine and used only by the SysMan set of tools. Please note that it is not running as a service. Therefore, when it is not actively handling a request, it is not using any resources.

By default, the WMI-provider is installed remotely on request.
For some reasons though, one might want to revert to a manual install locally.

The WMI-Provider is no more than a DLL file which can be copied over between machines and registered as normal in Windows without the need for a reboot on the source- or target-machine..

How-to:

  1. Find a machine on where the WMI-provider has been installed remotely.
  2. The provider is stored as SysgemWMIProvider.dll in the 'Sysgem AG\SysMan Utilities' installation folder.
On 32-bits-machines this would by default be:
    C:\Program Files\Sysgem AG\SysMan Utilities
On 64-bit-machines this would by default be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Sysgem AG\SysMan Utilities
  3. On the target-machine (where you want to have the WMI-provider installed on), create a folder to hold the WMI-provider DLL file
On 32-bits-machines this would by default be:
    C:\Program Files\Sysgem AG\SysMan Utilities
On 64-bit-machines the would by default be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Sysgem AG\SysMan Utilities
  4. From the source-machine copy SysgemWMIProvider.dll to this folder on the target-machine.
  5. Still on the target-machine, open a CMD-prompt and register the DLL-file using regsvr32 and press ENTER.

    Code: Select all

    regsvr32 <path>\SysgemWMIProvider.dll

    Note:

To quickly include the path and the DLL-file, drag the SysgemWMIProvider.dll-file from the explorer window in the command-prompt window.
  6. The WMI-provider should now be ready for usage by SysMan Utilities.
